Blessed Are Those Who Hear God's Word and Keep It

Luke 11:28

Jesus said, “Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it.”

A woman in the crowd spoke about Mary, the mother who gave birth to Jesus:
“Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts at which you nursed.”

Jesus answered her with the words above.

Mary was certainly blessed.
But Jesus said that even more blessed are “those who hear the word of God and keep it.”

To keep God’s word also carries the sense of holding fast to it and guarding it.

When I was younger…
I used to think how blessed the son of a great pastor—or the son of a great missionary—must be.

If I compared it to horses… they seemed like thoroughbreds 🏇
while I felt more like a workhorse 🐎.
I kept comparing myself with others 😥
and there was a time when I felt as though I was hardly useful at all… 🤔

But in the life of faith, it is a one-to-one relationship between God and each person.
Birth, upbringing, education, and environment have very little to do with it.

Jesus said that the blessed person is
“the one who hears God’s word and keeps it.”

God uses people like that.
He blesses people like that ❗️
He answers the prayers of people like that.

Are you comparing your faith with someone else’s?

God made you to be you.
And as you obey God’s word,
your life can reveal God’s glory ❗️
